Description |
English: This photomicrograph reveals the presence of Rickettsia prowazekii bacteria in a yolk sac smear specimen, which had been processed using the Macchiavello staining technique. R. prowazekii is responsible for causing the human disease known as epidemic typhus, and is transmitted to humans by way of the bite from the human body louse, Pediculus humanus var. corporis, which is pictured in PHIL 9203 and 9203. |
