Summary:

  • Radiopaedia case ID: 25422
  • Image ID: 4912081
  • Image stack position: 9/23
  • Plane projection: Axial
  • Aux modality: T2 fat sat
  • Modality: MRI
  • System: Musculoskeletal
  • Findings: Mild T2 signal abnormality along the articular cartilage of the superior

acetabulum with focal linear signal abnormality extending through the anterosuperior labrum (7 mm in width) with a small ganglion cyst extending into the iliopsoas bursa. A second focus of labral high signal is visible along the supero-posterior margin (11 mm in width).

The femoral head neck offset is normal in the axial plane as measured by an also angle of approximately 38\XB0\. The alpha angle measured in the coronal plane demonstrates an abnormal head neck offset of approximately 60\XB0\.

No subchondral cyst formation in the acetabulum or femoral head. The lateral center edge angle is normal. No evidence of acetabular dysplasia or over coverage. No bony edema. CONCLUSION

No inflammatory change. Likely focal chondromalacia (1 cm) superoposteriorly (sampson 3). Small focal chondrolabral tears anterosuperior and posterosuperiorly.
