Summary:

Description
  • Radiopaedia case ID: 19296
  • Image ID: 2868706
  • Plane projection: Oblique
  • Aux modality: bone window
  • Study findings: CT findings of a twin disc like device between the left and right atrium across the defect
  • Modality: CT
  • System: Chest
  • Findings: Typical findings of pectus excavatum on the anterior chest radiograph (steep anterior ribs and apparent soft tissue opacity to the right of the heart border) and a subtle metallic density projected over the lower thoracic spine. Typical appearance of the Amplatz occluder on the lateral projection. It is used as a percutaneous device to close a secundum ASD that has been detected in adulthood. Its orientation in this case is a little unusual (i.e. seen in profile on the lateral view) since the heart is distorted by the pectus excavatum.
