The anterior choroidal artery (AChA) originate from the internal carotid artery distal to the posterior communicating artery. AChA has a cisternal segment, a plexal point and a ventricular segment. The plexal point denotes the location which the AChA enters the choroidal fissure into the lateral ventricle. Both the posterior lateral and posterior medial choroidal arteries usually originate from the P2 segment of the posterior cerebral artery. The posterior medial choroidal artery course posteriorly along the ambient cistern/midbrain to the quadrideminal plate cistern before ascending towards the choroidal fissure. The lateral posterior choroidal artery has a shorter cistern segment before entering the choroidal fissure.
