• Study findings: Lateral ankle radiograph shows osteophytic spur formation at

the anterior tibial margin with a subtle corresponding talar spur. There is also subcondral cyst formation in the anterior tibia and adjacent soft tissue swelling. The osteophytic spurs are commonly refers to as "tibotalar spur". Anterior ankle impingement syndrome is the result of chronic repetitive trauma with impingement of the anterior tibia against the talus. The associated changes described is best appreciated on the lateral view.
