Summary

Description: Melioidosis predominantly occurs in people who have frequent contact with soil or surface water, such as workers in rice paddies, particularly during the rainy season. Travellers to rural areas in endemic countries may be at risk if they come into contact with contaminated soil or water, especially if they areimmunosuppressedor have achroniccondition such asdiabetes, liver or kidney disease, or chronic lung disease [1]. Historically, melioidosis has also been described as being transmitted viaintravenous drug use, but this is now extremely rare.
