Summary:

Description
  • Description: Lia Samantha (left), a young fashion designer from Chocó, Colombia, debuts her new fashion line, which is heavily influenced by Afro-Colombian traditional clothing. This cultural and positive messaging initiative seeks to break prevailing negative stereotypes in Colombian society by highlighting contributions of the Afro-Colombian population and communicating cultural diversity as the country’s most important asset.

This initiative to strengthen Afro-Colombian ethnic identity is part of USAID’s Afro-Colombian and Indigenous Program (ACIP). The five-year program, implemented by ACDI/VOCA, is the first stand-alone program designed with the sole purpose of improving the lives of Afro-Colombian and indigenous persons.
