Category creation
Hi,
I have noticed that a number of catagories have been created, but as someone who has had a career in IT, it concerns me that the overall caegory structure is not defined. From my experience in IT design, one should adopt a top-down design, in this case first create the root category (called Category:CommonsRoot in Wikimedia Commons), then create sub-categories that are hooked onto that caetegory and build the category tree in that way. From my casual observation of progress to date, it appears that you are creating the bottom layer of catgories and the working upwards. Martinvl (talk) 21:51, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

- I generally agree, and for better or worse, the model has been to just let it run willy-nilly and accept that at any given time, some percentage of the categories will be malformed or empty or lead nowhere, but that the process will just work itself out over time. I also don't see any pathway to creating a centralized hierarchy and ontology for what could in principle be any topic. Koavf (talk) 11:15, 12 March 2024 (UTC)

LUA error code
I tried uploading my first file into NC Commons using the "Upload File" facility and got am error message "Lua error in Module:DateI18n at line 113: attempt to index field 'data' (a nil value)". I notice that other users have also had this error. What can be done to cortect for it? I have loaded hundreds of files into COmmons without any problems. Martinvl (talk) 18:43, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
- User:Martinvl We need to add the translation extension. I have requested this and we are waiting for it to be done. Once it is added that "Lua error" will go away. We are still building here.
- We are also trying to get Wikidata integration functional, which is turning out to be exceedingly difficult and slow. But these are mostly cosmetic things and do not appear when the images are reused.Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 07:25, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Special:MediaStatistics
Special:MediaStatistics (linked from the sidebar as "Stats") gives a 503 for me. It probably shouldn't. --Base (talk) 18:20, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
Further errors
@User:Doc James: Thank you for sorting out the errors in Template:Information.
I notice however there are still errors in
- Template:Description
- Template:Cite web
- Template:Reflist.
- In addition inter-wiki links do not appear to work. I checked this by pasting :en:International_Bureau_of_Weights_and_Measures into the search box in both Commons and NC Commons. Commons took me to the correct page in Wikipedia, but NC Commons did not.

- Hi,
- Thank you for correcting the way in which "template:information" adds a colon safter the language in the description field. However there are still a number of errors that need correction:
- "template:cite ref" does not work
- "tempate:reflist" does not work
- Wikilinks such as My favourite city (created by "[[:en:Amsterdam|My favourite city]]" do not work.

Interwiki links
(ticket) I think the issue here has to do with this interwiki data. It is very different on MDWiki[1] than NC Commons[2]. Which is different than Commons.[3] Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 16:26, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
